UPDATE# 9 New Federal Ban on Semi-Automatic Rifles Under Attack By State Laws
As a response to the horror of the massacre of children at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newton, Connecticut; new federal gun bans on assault rifles were passed into law. Which sounds great: however, individual states are now voting in legislation to bypass federal statutes as not applicable law as it does not respect the right of states to decide what gun control the public wants as opposed to federal lawmakers.

This twist is not surprising, just depressing. And even the new ban would not have stopped the killer of Sandy Hook. The ban does not extend to existing weapons already legally purchased. In addition, the guns used were purchased by his mother who would have had no difficulty passing more comprehensive background checks. (If she was still alive, as he shot her dead first before making his way out to his former elementary school.)

The massacre of the lost angels of Sandyhook Elementary in Newtown: this should this NEVER happen again. The interesting aspect is the killing machine used was the first purchased by Nancy Lanza, legally over a three-year period, beginning in 2010 with a Bushmaster XM-15 .223-caliber semi-automatic assault-style rifle. Yes, the same weapon used in the ambush of the Firemen of Webster & the D.C. Sniper.
December 14th, 2012 will now be remembered as the day a group of very young children, many of them in kindergarten were massacred by the 20 year old autistic developmentally disabled son of a wealthy single mother (also a gun enthusiast) shooting at least 100 rounds out of .223 Bushmaster rifle, two 9mm weapons, a Sig Sauer as well as a Glock.

While early reports indicated his mother was killed in the classroom, that was not factual. He had already shot his mother 4 times in the face, leaving her dead at the home where they lived. This maniac who set fire to his neighborhood in Webster, New York Monday & then ambushed & killed the firefighters was convicted of manslaughter in 1981 after he hammered to death his grandmother, Rose Spengler, 92. He was paroled in 1998. This Maniac remained under parole supervision until 2006, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported. Before Monday's shooting, Webster police hadn't had any run-ins with The Firemen Killing Maniac of Webster, New York since he was paroled.
Although The Firemen Killing Maniac couldn't legally own firearms as a convicted felon, police said he was armed with a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, a 12-gauge pump shotgun & a Bushmaster .223 caliber rifle. No one needs a .223 Bushmaster semi caliber rifle. It is a killing machine. Ban these guns now! Stop the killings by maniacs armed with assault rifles! Fight The NRA, do away with killing machines. In the days ahead you will find out that the guns belonged to his mother & the reason she had them was because she loved expensive firepower & was proud of her arsenal. She even took the shooter to firing ranges so he could become adept at utilizing weapons not suitable for the mentally ill, people with severe personalty disorders or prone to outbursts of violence. The dark side of autism that is rarely discussed: there have been many prior episodes where the cute little boys grew up to be rage monsters after adolescence killing their mothers by beating them to death, or as in this matter, he shot her right in the face. The reason why you are hearing about this case is because he also went to the school where he had once attended as a student & killed those little kids as if it was a fun video game. not a single one survived. Two were taken to the hospital, where they died. This is quite significant as the West Nickel Mines School Shooting of Lancaster, Pennsylvania (in 2006) despite the fact that the 10 little girls were shot with a Springfield XD 9mm handgun in the head, 5 of them are alive today.
(This shooting is sometimes referred to as The Amish School Shooting as it took place in a 1 room Old Amish School House. The heroic bravery of the children & grace that the Amish Community displayed is a remarkable tale that deserves to be recounted in a separate piece.) That not a single child survived this massacre as Newtown tells me a huge amount of rage with multiple gunshot wounds to every child had to have been the behavioral mode here.

We Honor the Lost Children of Newtown, not the the murderer: dead & gone
There is no comparison between Columbine, Colorado or Virgina Tech in this mass murder of small children. At Columbine, the motivation of the shooters was to become famous & the targets were teachers as well as other teenagers like themselves. One of them was ultimately declared a psychopath & the other a depressed follower. The date chosen, April 20, 1999 was Adolf Hitler's birthday. It was unclear if that was the the intended point, as the day before was the the anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombings as well as The Waco Disaster. As mass murders they weren't very good: they factually only killed 12 other students along with 1 teacher. If their intention was to be the most successful killers at a school: this was neither well planned nor well executed. They had tried to leave booby trap bombs as well, these failed to explode. To the extent that they had also tried to suggest that their actions were driven by bullying targeting them by the more popular teens such as the athletes: that was a very odd claim as they shot most of the kids in the school library, not a known as a traditional jock hang out. At Virgina Tech, the 23 year old shooter was mentally ill & also motivated by a desire to be known as having accomplished something special: mowing down both other college students as well as professors. Despite suffering from severe anxiety attacks as well as periods when he was so withdrawn as to seem mute, he was far more effective that the deluded duo of Columbine. On April 16, 2007 armed with a .22-caliber Walther P22 semi-automatic handgun & a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock 19 handgun, he roamed all over the place killing 32 people all by himself. In fairness, he was aided a great deal by the ineptitude of the school officials who failed to lockdown or warn anyone after the first 2 shootings as they thought it was just some kind of a boyfriend/girlfriend domestic dispute which would resolve itself as a murder suicide. Never underestimate the dumbness of highly educated highly paid school administrators. There was a significant time delay before the initial shootings and the subsequent rampage where he blew through 400 rounds of ammunition. Yes, indeed a lot more lives could have been saved on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in Blacksburg, Virginia if the school officials had acted with alarm as opposed to relative indifference.
The best part was due to the public outrage, a commission was set up to investigate & issue a report. After the release of the Official Virginia Tech Review Panel Report (which took a lot of pages to tell you what I just summarized, the school's behavior was astonishingly negligent), some parents of the murdered kids got pretty worked up. They were so infuriated to learn that there had been such a lack of effort to protect the students they actually called for Virginia's governor to fire both the university president as well as the campus police chief.
However, Governor Tim Kaine rejected the entire concept, stating that the school officials had "suffered enough": odd, as it seemed as though the families of the dead were the ones who were really hurting & mourning the loss of their children. Lesson here is never confuse a Politician with someone who has high ethical or moral standards. As so many people love my asides, here come one now: this reminds me of the horrible death of Baltimore's own Yeardly Love at the University of Virginia where many people expected that the Men's Lacrosse Coach Dom Starsia would be fired as he knew what was going on & never did anything about his often drunk beyond belief, high as a kite battering lacrosse player who broke the jaw of another team member. Dom Starsia was not fired, criticized or sanctioned in any way. Don't be ridiculous, winning Coach Of The Year got a contract extension, not a reprimand. Lacrosse championships are much more important at UVA than dead girls. Dead girls aren't going to win anything, Dom Starsia can still produce more playoff games.

Ironically, the principal at Sandyhook Elementary School was so concerned about safety she had developed a security system protocol that required the doors to be locked at 9:30 a.m., making it impossible for anyone to enter the school after that time without visual identification. That meant the shooter knew there was an easy window of time to launch his assault, all he had to do was get there before the 9:30 a.m. entry shut down. Principal Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung was 47 years old & meant well. Unfortunately, the security concept had a fatal flaw. A deadly one as those reported killed at the school includes 5 other adults as well as 20 little kids, most of them kindergartners. Some reports now state he broke through a window, others that was buzzed in. It will take awhile for the facts to be certain, the killings definitely commenced around the time of the secure door system.
While this incident is truly horrific & makes for a Great Media Interest Story: Send In The Clowns, #News9 of Denver, Colorado gets the Special Shame Badge for milking this for all the pain possible by resurrecting The Columbine Story All Over Again as if it had some meaningful relationship to killing kindergartners, which I think I have proven it does not unless you are Live Local & Completely Lacking in Journalism Ethical Standards.
Of course this is the same station that ran a sympathetic 3 part series on how Notorious Con Artist Toni Ingram shills & blogs endlessly about a stalking that never happened from delusional Toni's Point of View. Someone should explain to them that they have slipped below used car salesman in their credibility with these desperate grabs for audience share. As I know more about dumb journalists that are still concerned about their acne: the most horrific murder of school children is an incident that most readers (AND CERTAINLY NO ONE AT DENVER NEWS9) have ever heard about because it took place a long time ago. Also it was planned for more than a year, which does make a difference. Good planning combined with a pathological hatred of children can really mount a death toll. He posed as the friendly handyman while filling the entire school up with explosive material. The reason he hated the children so much he wanted them all dead was because he felt it was unfair to have to pay taxes that went towards educating other people's children. Now that is a real nut ball for you. He was the school board treasurer as well as the pretend friendly handyman. These days, the school board treasurer just embezzles the money: there is no need to kill the kids.
The so called Bath School disaster took place on May 18, 1927 in Bath Township, Michigan. That maniac committed the deadliest mass murder of little school children in US History & no one even remembers it. He killed 38 elementary school children, which is a way lot more damage than Columbine or even today's horrific slaughter in Newton, Connecticut. Adding to the death toll, he took out 6 adults & injured 58 people who survived his evil rampage. He started off his day by beating his wife to death & then setting fire to his farm buildings. This caused the fire department to go off to his house. He was not there as he had used that as a ruse to distract the attention in the wrong direction. This guy was a serious planner who had been stewing with fury over the unfairness of the school tax thing sucking $$$ away from him for a long time. Unlike the poor effort of the Columbine duo, his bombs actually blew up big time. (I don't know why he beat his wife to death because he killed himself so no one ever got to ask him. I have always imagined that she had said something annoying like she wanted children or liked children as he was always at the school playing handyman while he was actually rigging the place up.)
As rescuers finally made it over to the school, he detonated a bomb inside his fragmentation filled vehicle with his Winchester rifle, killing himself as well as the school superintendent. Everything did not go perfectly as he hit that trigger too fast. After he blew himself up searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds of unexploded dynamite & pyrotol planted throughout the basement. If he had slightly better timing the entire elementary school would have been leveled & every single child would have died in the Bath School District. I give that guy an A for effort.

The horror that visited Sandyhook Elementary School in Newtown, CT is not the first time a monster has mowed down helpless small children. A similar incident in Scotland resulted in a massive attack on existing gun laws to prevent another occurrence.
These are the first graders aged 5 from the Dunblane Masssacre, 1966
An unemployed pedophile angered by Police questioning him about his conduct with children entered the Dunblane Primary School in Scotland,UK carrying two 9 mm Browning HP pistols & 2 Smith & Wesson M19 .357 Magnum revolvers, all legally acquired under existing law, all very powerful weapons. He made his way to the gymnasium & opened fire on a Primary One class of almost all five year olds, killing or wounding all but one person. Fifteen children died together with their class teacher, Gwen Mayor, who was killed trying to protect the children. The Monster of Dunblane also had in his arsenal 743 cartridges, enabling him to fire his weapons 109 times at the terrified 5 year olds.
The Monster of Dunblane had loaded the magazines for his Browning with an alternating combination of full-metal-jacket & hollow-point ammunition for maximum killing impact.
He then left the gymnasium through the emergency exit. Outside, standing in the playground he began shooting into a mobile classroom. A quick thinking teacher in the mobile classroom realised something was seriously wrong & directed the children to hide under the tables, saving the lives of many students. Most of the bullets became embedded in books & equipment instead of hurting the children.
He also fired at a group of children walking in a corridor, injuring one teacher. Ultimately The Monster of Dunblane, returned to the gym & killed himself on the scene with one of his many weapons.. A further 11 children & 3 adults were rushed to hospital as soon as the emergency services arrived. One child, Mhairi Isabel MacBeath, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
This incident resulted in a massive investigation (termed enquiry) i.e. Citizen Action Groups as well as a change in laws to prevent another occurrence in the UK ever again. In response to this public outrage & subsequent demand for government action derived by the furious debate, the then-current Conservative government introduced a ban on all cartridge ammunition handguns allowing only "sport" .22 calibre single-shot weapons in England, Scotland & Wales.
Following the 1997 General Election, the Labour government of Tony Blair passed the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act of 1997, banning the remaining .22 cartridge handguns in England, Scotland &Wales, leaving only muzzle-loading & historic handguns as legal, as well as certain sporting handguns (e.g. "Long-Arms") that fall outside the Home Office Definition of a "Handgun" due to their dimensions.
As a sidenote, Scottish born Tennis star Andy Murray was a student in the upper classes of Dunblane Elementary School during the massacre: this has caused a great deal of interest in the UK as to why no similar response took place here. In addition, one of the lost children of Newton, little Dylan Hockney was a UK citizen who had recently moved across the pond across the street from where the Monster of Newtown, Connecticut lived as well.

What is now known as The Port Arthur massacre took place about 2 months later on April 28, 1996. The Maniac of Port Arthur (supposedly mentally deficient) was not targeting a school, although young children did die during his deranged killing spree undertaken in several different locations. A total of 35 people were killed along with 23 wounded, the majority at a tourist attraction: the historic Port Arthur prison colony located in south-eastern Tasmania, Australia. His inspiration was all the publicity surrounding the Monster of Dunblane: this maniac wanted to be famous, too. That is why their names are NEVER mentioned here, only the victims.
The Maniac of Port Arthur was a 28-year-old from New Town, a suburb of Hobart, who eventually pleaded guilty to the crimes & was given 35 life sentences without possibility of parole. Alive today, he is now imprisoned in the Wilfred Lopes Centre near Risdon Prison. His father had committed suicide & he became obsessed with the idea that the owners of a The Seascape Bad & Bath who had failed to sell their property to his father were responsible: so they were the first 2 victims. He shot as well as stabbed them. That is how he started off his day in the early morning of April 28, 1996..
The Maniac began accumulating weapons starting with an AR-10 semi-automatic rifle acquired in response to a newspaper advertisement he spotted in Tasmania. By March 1996, he had his AR-10 repaired at a gun shop & made enquiries about his interest in purchasing AR-15 rifles in other gun shops. In April 1995, The Maniac Of Port Arthur purchased cleaning kits for a .30 calibre weapon & a 12 gauge Daewoo shotgun. He paid for a large sports bag to contain all the ammunition as well as the massive number of weapons he had been allowed to hoard under the very lax gun laws of the time. That would change in the aftermath of the horror.
After killing the owners of The Seascape Bad & Bath, the Maniac proceeded to wait at The Broad Arrow Cafe nearby as the Port Arthur tourist site was quite crowded with a long line waiting to enter. The Maniac went into the cafe & purchased a meal, which he ate on the deck outside looking at those he intended to kill. People held the door open for him & commented on the large amount of food he had. He replied that he was hungry from surfing. He appeared nervous & continually looked back to the car-park as well as glancing around the cafe.

Once he finished eating, he walked back into the cafe & politely returned his tray, assisted by some people who opened the door for him. He put down his bag on a table, pulling out a Colt AR-15 rifle with a Colt scope & one 30-round magazine attached. He left the bag which contained, among other things, the knife with which he had stabbed the first victims, on the table. It is believed the magazine was partially emptied from the previous rounds fired at Seascape Bed & Bath.
The cafe was very small with the tables very close together. The cafe was particularly busy that day as people waited for the next ferry. The events happened extremely quickly. Bryant took aim from his hip & pointed his rifle at Moh Yee (William) Ng and Sou Leng Chung, who were visiting from Malaysia, who were seated at a table beside Bryant. He shot them at close range, killing both instantly. Bryant then fired a shot at Mick Sargent, grazing his scalp & knocking him to the floor. The Maniac fired a 4th shot, killing Sargent's girlfriend, 21-year-old Kate Elizabeth Scott.
Anthony Nightingale stood up after the sound of the first shots, but had no time to move. Nightingale yelled "No, not here!" as The Maniac then pointed the weapon at him. James Nightingale was then fatally shot through the neck & spine while bravely attempting to save others. The next table had held a group of ten friends, but some had just left the table to return their meal trays & visit the gift shop. The Maniac fired one shot that killed Kevin Vincent Sharp, 68. The next shot hit Walter Bennett, passed through his body & struck Raymond John Sharp, 67, Kevin Sharp's brother, killing both.
The three had their backs towards The Maniac in the crowded cafe & thought the shots were some kind of a prank. One of them even made the comment "That's not funny" after hearing the first few shots, not aware it was a real gun. The shots were all close range, with the gun at, or just inches away from, the back of their heads. Gerald Broome, Gaye Fidler & her husband John, were all struck by stray bullet fragments.
The Maniac of Port Arthur then turned towards Tony & Sarah Kistan & Andrew Mills. The men stood up at the noise of the initial shots but had no time to move away. Andrew Mills was shot in the head. Tony Kistan was also shot in the head, but had managed to push his wife away prior to being shot. Sarah Kistan was apparently not seen by The Maniac, as she was hiding under the table by that time.
Thelma Walker & Pamelia Law were injured by shrapnel before being dragged to the ground by their friend, Peter Crosswell, as the three cowered in terror underneath a table. It was only then that the majority of the people in the cafe began to realise what was happening & that the shots were not some sort of noise from a reenactment at the historical site. There was great confusion, with many people not knowing what to do: as The Maniac of Port Arthur continued to shoot at will near the main exit. He had locked the door at the gift shop entrance so there was no escape in the other direction.
He continued on his rampage, shooting at people still at their tables, where Graham Colyer, Carolyn Loughton & her daughter Sarah were seated. People began to fight back, throwing themselves on top of loved ones to protect them. Several people outside realised there was real danger & began to run away. The Maniac blocked the exit, preventing others from attempting to run past him & escape. He continued to shoot as he moved across the cafe towards the gift shop area, where the locked door made escape impossible. All of these events at The Broad Arrow Cafe from the first bullet shot, took approximately 15 seconds, during which 12 people were killed & 10 more were wounded.
This is why semiautomatic rifles are so dangerous as killing machines.

He then rampaged through the gift shop,firing at least another 29 rounds killing & maiming even more people in a matter of minutes. When there was no one left to shoot at, he returned to the car park having reloaded all his weapons. At this point some employees caught on to the real danger while some visitors still thought they were witnessing an entertaining historical "re-enactment".
During the cafe shooting, some staff members had been able to escape through the kitchen & alert people outside. There were a number of coaches outside with lines of people, many of whom began to hide in the buses or in nearby buildings. Others did not understand the situation or were not sure where to go. Those that believed there was some sort of historical reenactment happening actually continued to move towards the shooter.
Ashley John Law, a site employee, was moving people away from the café into the information centre when The Maniac fired at him in a fury at his brave efforts to save others. The bullets missed Mr. Law. People began to try to enter the coaches for safety or run along the seaside in panic as The Maniac continued to shoot at will. By this time, he had killed 24 people & injured 18.

He drove away while firing towards the toll booth & then re-entered the carpark area, killing 3 year old & 6 year old sisters. The youngest victim, little 3 year old Madeline Mikac was younger than the lost children of Sandyhook Elementary of Newton, Connecticutt. Her older sister Alannah tried to run away: he shot her twice. He killed their begging mother on her knees, Nanette Mikac, as well while she pleaded for him to spare her little girls.
As people began to try to escape to a nearby service atation to warn authorities, The Maniac followed them there & killed them, too. He then continued to drive in a carjacked vehicle while shooting & killing along the road way. He took hostages, handcuffing them as well as setting fire to others. An 18-hour standoff ensued during which time the police talked over the phone to The Maniac Of Port Arthur who demanded to be called "Jamie". This is what is called "losing control of the situation".
He made a request for a helicopter, saying that he wanted to be flown to a plane & then onto Adelaide in South Australia. The Maniac insisted that if the helicopter arrived he would release one hostage, Mr. Pears & only keep Mrs. Martin. He claimed he could see the movement of SOG officers & enjoyed running them ragged. The Maniac continually demanded their retreat each time they began an approach to the house until he was terrorizing them & they began to believe he had special powers.
Police believed he had some kind of visual aid device, as he appeared to maintain keen awareness of their stupidity despite the complete black of night, of course none was ever found. He was just accurately guessing that the SOG team was trying to approach & somehow they were so dumb they thought that The Maniac could see them. Later in the night, the cordless phone provided to The Maniac began to run low on batteries. Police tried unsuccessfully to get him to return the phone to the charger, but it went dead & no further communications were established.
The hostages were factually already dead & The Maniac was just having fun with the Special Operations Group of The Tasmanian Police. By the next morning, bored by the inability to taunt them by phone, he started a fire. He eventually ran out of the house with his clothes on fire & quickly removed his burning clothes without any assistance from the SOG Team. The Maniac of Port Arthur was finally arrested at that point & taken to the hospital for treatment of his self inflicted minor burns. I would not have bothered.
He had fun at his trial as well, laughing hysterically as the judge read out the charges against him. I imagine there was no death penalty at the time as he only got a lot of life sentences in prison, which is better than the treatment of those he tortured, kidnapped, set on fire, held hostage & killed. The Maniac of Port Arthur, still alive at taxpayer expense today remains Australia's worst killing spree murderer. The incident is considered one of the worst cases worldwide of a mass killing spree in modern times. Factually inspired by the massacre of the school children of Dunblane, Scotland.
In the aftermath of the events, the good people of Australia began to demand that politicians actually make it impossible for this to happen ever again. Australians reacted to the event with widespread shock as well as horror & the political effects were both significant & long-lasting. The Federal Government led state governments, some of which (notably Tasmania itself & Queensland) were opposed to new gun laws, to severely restrict the availability of firearms. While surveys showed up to 85% of Australians "supported gun control", many people supposedly strongly opposed the new laws.
Guess who did not want new gun laws in place? After discovering that the Christian Coalition & The US National Rifle Association (Yup: the NRA) were supporting the gun lobby, the Government & media cited their support: along with the moral outrage of the community to discredit the gun lobby as extremists. Actually, the gun dealers are mass murder opportunists for profits, this isn't really a political stance at all. Mass killings means more gun sales.

As a response to the horror of the massacre of children at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newton, Connecticut; new federal gun bans on assault rifles were passed into law. Which sounds great: however, individual states are now voting in legislation to bypass federal statutes as not applicable law as it does not respect the right of states to decide what gun control the public wants as opposed to federal lawmakers.

Before Monday's shooting, Webster police hadn't had any run-ins with The Firemen Killing Maniac of Webster, New York since he was paroled.
Although The Firemen Killing Maniac couldn't legally own firearms as a convicted felon, police said he was armed with a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, a 12-gauge pump shotgun & a Bushmaster .223 caliber rifle. In the days ahead you will find out that the guns belonged to his mother & the reason she had them was because she loved expensive firepower & was proud of her arsenal. She even took the shooter to firing ranges so he could become adept at utilizing weapons not suitable for the mentally ill, people with severe personalty disorders or prone to outbursts of violence. The dark side of autism that is rarely discussed: there have been many prior episodes where the cute little boys grew up to be rage monsters after adolescence killing their mothers by beating them to death, or as in this matter, he shot her right in the face. The reason why you are hearing about this case is because he also went to the school where he had once attended as a student & killed those little kids as if it was a fun video game. not a single one survived. Two were taken to the hospital, where they died. This is quite significant as the West Nickel Mines School Shooting of Lancaster, Pennsylvania (in 2006) despite the fact that the 10 little girls were shot with a Springfield XD 9mm handgun in the head, 5 of them are alive today.
(This shooting is sometimes referred to as The Amish School Shooting as it took place in a 1 room Old Amish School House. The heroic bravery of the children & grace that the Amish Community displayed is a remarkable tale that deserves to be recounted in a separate piece.) That not a single child survived this massacre as Newtown tells me a huge amount of rage with multiple gunshot wounds to every child had to have been the behavioral mode here.

We Honor the Lost Children of Newtown, not the the murderer: dead & gone
There is no comparison between Columbine, Colorado or Virgina Tech in this mass murder of small children. At Columbine, the motivation of the shooters was to become famous & the targets were teachers as well as other teenagers like themselves. One of them was ultimately declared a psychopath & the other a depressed follower. The date chosen, April 20, 1999 was Adolf Hitler's birthday. It was unclear if that was the the intended point, as the day before was the the anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombings as well as The Waco Disaster. As mass murders they weren't very good: they factually only killed 12 other students along with 1 teacher. If their intention was to be the most successful killers at a school: this was neither well planned nor well executed. They had tried to leave booby trap bombs as well, these failed to explode. To the extent that they had also tried to suggest that their actions were driven by bullying targeting them by the more popular teens such as the athletes: that was a very odd claim as they shot most of the kids in the school library, not a known as a traditional jock hang out. If I was planning on taking revenge on the football team in high school, I would start the shooting in the locker room after a big game. That way they are tired, distracted as well as conveniently located.
At Virgina Tech, the 23 year old shooter was mentally ill & also motivated by a desire to be known as having accomplished something special: mowing down both other college students as well as professors. Despite suffering from severe anxiety attacks as well as periods when he was so withdrawn as to seem mute, he was far more effective that the deluded duo of Columbine. On April 16, 2007 armed with a .22-caliber Walther P22 semi-automatic handgun & a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock 19 handgun, he roamed all over the place killing 32 people all by himself. In fairness, he was aided a great deal by the ineptitude of the school officials who failed to lockdown or warn anyone after the first 2 shootings as they thought it was just some kind of a boyfriend/girlfriend domestic dispute which would resolve itself as a murder suicide. Never underestimate the dumbness of highly educated highly paid school administrators. There was a significant time delay before the initial shootings and the subsequent rampage where he blew through 400 rounds of ammunition. Yes, indeed a lot more lives could have been saved on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in Blacksburg, Virginia if the school officials had acted with alarm as opposed to relative indifference.
The best part was due to the public outrage, a commission was set up to investigate & issue a report. After the release of the Official Virginia Tech Review Panel Report (which took a lot of pages to tell you what I just summarized, the school's behavior was astonishingly negligent), some parents of the murdered kids got pretty worked up. They were so infuriated to learn that there had been such a lack of effort to protect the students they actually called for Virginia's governor to fire both the university president as well as the campus police chief.
However, Governor Tim Kaine rejected the entire concept, stating that the school officials had "suffered enough": odd, as it seemed as though the families of the dead were the ones who were really hurting & mourning the loss of their children. Lesson here is never confuse a Politician with someone who has high ethical or moral standards. As so many people love my asides, here come one now: this reminds me of the horrible death of Baltimore's own Yeardly Love at the University of Virginia where many people expected that the Men's Lacrosse Coach Dom Starsia would be fired as he knew what was going on & never did anything about his often drunk beyond belief, high as a kite battering lacrosse player who broke the jaw of another team member. Dom Starsia was not fired, criticized or sanctioned in any way. Don't be ridiculous, winning Coach Of The Year got a contract extension, not a reprimand. Lacrosse championships are much more important at UVA than dead girls. Dead girls aren't going to win anything, Dom Starsia can still produce more playoff games.

Ironically, the principal at Sandyhook Elementary School was so concerned about safety she had developed a security system protocol that required the doors to be locked at 9:30 a.m., making it impossible for anyone to enter the school after that time without visual identification. That meant the shooter knew there was an easy window of time to launch his assault, all he had to do was get there before the 9:30 a.m. entry shut down. Principal Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung was 47 years old & meant well. Unfortunately, the security concept had a fatal flaw. A deadly one as those reported killed at the school includes 5 other adults as well as 20 little kids, most of them kindergartners. Some reports now state he broke through a window, others that was buzzed in. It will take awhile for the facts to be certain, the killings definitely commenced around the time of the secure door system.
While this incident is truly horrific & makes for a Great Media Interest Story: Send In The Clowns, #News9 of Denver, Colorado gets the Special Shame Badge for milking this for all the pain possible by resurrecting The Columbine Story All Over Again as if it had some meaningful relationship to killing kindergartners, which I think I have proven it does not unless you are Live Local & Completely Lacking in Journalism Ethical Standards.
Of course this is the same station that ran a sympathetic 3 part series on how Notorious Con Artist Toni Ingram shills & blogs endlessly about a stalking that never happened from delusional Toni's Point of View. Someone should explain to them that they have slipped below used car salesman in their credibility with these desperate grabs for audience share. Actually they should share the Badge of Shame with Liar Toni Morgan for Fake Interest in Dead Children as she tweeted about the killings herself off the Morgan Stalking That Never Took Place Site. Trust me, Toni Ingram couldn't care less about dead children as right before the shootings she was tweeting & blogging that the Medical Examiner's kid should be killed so that person would know what it was like to kill children. As I know more about dumb journalists that are still concerned about their acne: the most horrific murder of school children is an incident that most readers (AND CERTAINLY NO ONE AT DENVER NEWS9) have ever heard about because it took place a long time ago. Also it was planned for more than a year, which does make a difference. Good planning combined with a pathological hatred of children can really mount a death toll. He posed as the friendly handyman while filling the entire school up with explosive material. The reason he hated the children so much he wanted them all dead was because he felt it was unfair to have to pay taxes that went towards educating other people's children. Now that is a real nut ball for you. He was the school board treasurer as well as the pretend friendly handyman. These days, the school board treasurer just embezzles the money: there is no need to kill the kids.
The so called Bath School disaster took place on May 18, 1927 in Bath Township, Michigan. That maniac committed the deadliest mass murder of little school children in US History & no one even remembers it. He killed 38 elementary school children, which is a way lot more damage than Columbine or even today's horrific slaughter in Newton, Connecticut. Adding to the death toll, he took out 6 adults & injured 58 people who survived his evil rampage. He started off his day by beating his wife to death & then setting fire to his farm buildings. This caused the fire department to go off to his house. He was not there as he had used that as a ruse to distract the attention in the wrong direction. This guy was a serious planner who had been stewing with fury over the unfairness of the school tax thing sucking $$$ away from him for a long time. Unlike the poor effort of the Columbine duo, his bombs actually blew up big time. (I don't know why he beat his wife to death because he killed himself so no one ever got to ask him. I have always imagined that she had said something annoying like she wanted children or liked children as he was always at the school playing handyman while he was actually rigging the place up.)
As rescuers finally made it over to the school, he detonated a bomb inside his fragmentation filled vehicle with his Winchester rifle, killing himself as well as the school superintendent. Everything did not go perfectly as he hit that trigger too fast. After he blew himself up searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds of unexploded dynamite & pyrotol planted throughout the basement. If he had slightly better timing the entire elementary school would have been leveled & every single child would have died in the Bath School District. I give that guy an A for effort.

The family was wealthy & the killer was known for violent outbursts as well as bizarre behavior. A lot of bullets for each kid: doubt this guy had a girlfriend. More likely he spent hours & hours playing violent video games. Until it was a game.
UPDATE: as I predicted: there was no girlfriend in his troubled life. He did spend hours upon end playing violent video games alone in a windowless room. "Call Of Duty" was a favorite.

The horror that visited Sandyhook Elementary School in Newtown, CT is not the first time a monster has mowed down helpless small children. A similar incident in Scotland resulted in a massive attack on existing gun laws to prevent another occurrence.
An unemployed pedophile angered by Police questioning him about his conduct with children entered the Dunblane Primary School in Scotland,UK carrying two 9 mm Browning HP pistols & 2 Smith & Wesson M19 .357 Magnum revolvers, all legally acquired under existing law, all very powerful weapons. He made his way to the gymnasium & opened fire on a Primary One class of almost all five year olds, killing or wounding all but one person. Fifteen children died together with their class teacher, Gwen Mayor, who was killed trying to protect the children. The Monster of Dunblane also had in his arsenal 743 cartridges, enabling him to fire his weapons 109 times at the terrified 5 year olds.
The Monster of Dunblane had loaded the magazines for his Browning with an alternating combination of full-metal-jacket & hollow-point ammunition for maximum killing impact.
He then left the gymnasium through the emergency exit. Outside, standing in the playground he began shooting into a mobile classroom. A quick thinking teacher in the mobile classroom realised something was seriously wrong & directed the children to hide under the tables, saving the lives of many students. Most of the bullets became embedded in books & equipment instead of hurting the children.
He also fired at a group of children walking in a corridor, injuring one teacher. Ultimately The Monster of Dunblane, returned to the gym & killed himself on the scene with one of his many weapons.. A further 11 children & 3 adults were rushed to hospital as soon as the emergency services arrived. One child, Mhairi Isabel MacBeath, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
This incident resulted in a massive investigation (termed enquiry) i.e. Citizen Action Groups as well as a change in laws to prevent another occurrence in the UK ever again. In response to this public outrage & subsequent demand for government action derived by the furious debate, the then-current Conservative government introduced a ban on all cartridge ammunition handguns allowing only "sport" .22 calibre single-shot weapons in England, Scotland & Wales.
Following the 1997 General Election, the Labour government of Tony Blair passed the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act of 1997, banning the remaining .22 cartridge handguns in England, Scotland &Wales, leaving only muzzle-loading & historic handguns as legal, as well as certain sporting handguns (e.g. "Long-Arms") that fall outside the Home Office Definition of a "Handgun" due to their dimensions.
As a sidenote, Scottish born Tennis star Andy Murray was a student in the upper classes of Dunblane Elementary School during the massacre: this has caused a great deal of interest in the UK as to why no similar response took place here. In addition, one of the lost children of Newton, little Dylan Hockney was a UK citizen who had recently moved across the pond across the street from where the Monster of Newtown, Connecticut lived as well.

WHY DO AMERICANS LOVE GUN OWNERSHIP MORE THAN SMALL CHILDREN?

What is now known as The Port Arthur massacre took place about 2 months later on April 28, 1996. The Maniac of Port Arthur (supposedly mentally deficient) was not targeting a school, although young children did die during his deranged killing spree undertaken in several different locations. A total of 35 people were killed along with 23 wounded, the majority at a tourist attraction: the historic Port Arthur prison colony located in south-eastern Tasmania, Australia. His inspiration was all the publicity surrounding the Monster of Dunblane: this maniac wanted to be famous, too. That is why their names are NEVER mentioned here, only the victims.
The Maniac of Port Arthur was a 28-year-old from New Town, a suburb of Hobart, who eventually pleaded guilty to the crimes & was given 35 life sentences without possibility of parole. Alive today, he is now imprisoned in the Wilfred Lopes Centre near Risdon Prison. His father had committed suicide & he became obsessed with the idea that the owners of a The Seascape Bad & Bath who had failed to sell their property to his father were responsible: so they were the first 2 victims. He shot as well as stabbed them. That is how he started off his day in the early morning of April 28, 1996..
The Maniac began accumulating weapons starting with an AR-10 semi-automatic rifle acquired in response to a newspaper advertisement he spotted in Tasmania. By March 1996, he had his AR-10 repaired at a gun shop & made enquiries about his interest in purchasing AR-15 rifles in other gun shops. In April 1995, The Maniac Of Port Arthur purchased cleaning kits for a .30 calibre weapon & a 12 gauge Daewoo shotgun. He paid for a large sports bag to contain all the ammunition as well as the massive number of weapons he had been allowed to hoard under the very lax gun laws of the time. That would change in the aftermath of the horror.
After killing the owners of The Seascape Bad & Bath, the Maniac proceeded to wait at The Broad Arrow Cafe nearby as the Port Arthur tourist site was quite crowded with a long line waiting to enter. The Maniac went into the cafe & purchased a meal, which he ate on the deck outside looking at those he intended to kill. People held the door open for him & commented on the large amount of food he had. He replied that he was hungry from surfing. He appeared nervous & continually looked back to the car-park as well as glancing around the cafe.

Once he finished eating, he walked back into the cafe & politely returned his tray, assisted by some people who opened the door for him. He put down his bag on a table, pulling out a Colt AR-15 rifle with a Colt scope & one 30-round magazine attached. He left the bag which contained, among other things, the knife with which he had stabbed the first victims, on the table. It is believed the magazine was partially emptied from the previous rounds fired at Seascape Bed & Bath.
The cafe was very small with the tables very close together. The cafe was particularly busy that day as people waited for the next ferry. The events happened extremely quickly. Bryant took aim from his hip & pointed his rifle at Moh Yee (William) Ng and Sou Leng Chung, who were visiting from Malaysia, who were seated at a table beside Bryant. He shot them at close range, killing both instantly. Bryant then fired a shot at Mick Sargent, grazing his scalp & knocking him to the floor. The Maniac fired a 4th shot, killing Sargent's girlfriend, 21-year-old Kate Elizabeth Scott.
Anthony Nightingale stood up after the sound of the first shots, but had no time to move. Nightingale yelled "No, not here!" as The Maniac then pointed the weapon at him. James Nightingale was then fatally shot through the neck & spine while bravely attempting to save others. The next table had held a group of ten friends, but some had just left the table to return their meal trays & visit the gift shop. The Maniac fired one shot that killed Kevin Vincent Sharp, 68. The next shot hit Walter Bennett, passed through his body & struck Raymond John Sharp, 67, Kevin Sharp's brother, killing both.
The three had their backs towards The Maniac in the crowded cafe & thought the shots were some kind of a prank. One of them even made the comment "That's not funny" after hearing the first few shots, not aware it was a real gun. The shots were all close range, with the gun at, or just inches away from, the back of their heads. Gerald Broome, Gaye Fidler & her husband John, were all struck by stray bullet fragments.
The Maniac of Port Arthur then turned towards Tony & Sarah Kistan & Andrew Mills. The men stood up at the noise of the initial shots but had no time to move away. Andrew Mills was shot in the head. Tony Kistan was also shot in the head, but had managed to push his wife away prior to being shot. Sarah Kistan was apparently not seen by The Maniac, as she was hiding under the table by that time.
Thelma Walker & Pamelia Law were injured by shrapnel before being dragged to the ground by their friend, Peter Crosswell, as the three cowered in terror underneath a table. It was only then that the majority of the people in the cafe began to realise what was happening & that the shots were not some sort of noise from a reenactment at the historical site. There was great confusion, with many people not knowing what to do: as The Maniac of Port Arthur continued to shoot at will near the main exit. He had locked the door at the gift shop entrance so there was no escape in the other direction.
He continued on his rampage, shooting at people still at their tables, where Graham Colyer, Carolyn Loughton & her daughter Sarah were seated. People began to fight back, throwing themselves on top of loved ones to protect them. Several people outside realised there was real danger & began to run away. The Maniac blocked the exit, preventing others from attempting to run past him & escape. He continued to shoot as he moved across the cafe towards the gift shop area, where the locked door made escape impossible. All of these events at The Broad Arrow Cafe from the first bullet shot, took approximately 15 seconds, during which 12 people were killed & 10 more were wounded.
This is why semiautomatic rifles are so dangerous as killing machines.

He then rampaged through the gift shop,firing at least another 29 rounds killing & maiming even more people in a matter of minutes. When there was no one left to shoot at, he returned to the car park having reloaded all his weapons. At this point some employees caught on to the real danger while some visitors still thought they were witnessing an entertaining historical "re-enactment".
During the cafe shooting, some staff members had been able to escape through the kitchen & alert people outside. There were a number of coaches outside with lines of people, many of whom began to hide in the buses or in nearby buildings. Others did not understand the situation or were not sure where to go. Those that believed there was some sort of historical reenactment happening actually continued to move towards the shooter.
Ashley John Law, a site employee, was moving people away from the café into the information centre when The Maniac fired at him in a fury at his brave efforts to save others. The bullets missed Mr. Law. People began to try to enter the coaches for safety or run along the seaside in panic as The Maniac continued to shoot at will. By this time, he had killed 24 people & injured 18.

He drove away while firing towards the toll booth & then re-entered the carpark area, killing 3 year old & 6 year old sisters. The youngest victim, little 3 year old Madeline Mikac was younger than the lost children of Sandyhook Elementary of Newton, Connecticutt. Her older sister Alannah tried to run away: he shot her twice. He killed their begging mother on her knees, Nanette Mikac, as well while she pleaded for him to spare her little girls.
As people began to try to escape to a nearby service atation to warn authorities, The Maniac followed them there & killed them, too. He then continued to drive in a carjacked vehicle while shooting & killing along the road way. He took hostages, handcuffing them as well as setting fire to others. Incredibly, the police failed to respond until 9 pm. After more than 10 hours of murder, arson, kidnapping, carjacking & mayhem at multiple locations a team finally arrived to "protect the public"...This is what you expect in the USA, not other places.
Around 9 p.m. a team from the Special Operations Group of the Tasmania Police had arrived & were eventually able to assist in removing some policemen from a ditch (as opposed to the civilians) by using the cover of darkness, riot shields & bulletproof jackets. They did not provide cover fire for fear of hitting hostages. An 18-hour standoff ensued during which time the police talked over the phone to The Maniac Of Port Arthur who demanded to be called "Jamie". This is what is called "losing control of the situation".
He made a request for a helicopter, saying that he wanted to be flown to a plane & then onto Adelaide in South Australia. The Maniac insisted that if the helicopter arrived he would release one hostage, Mr. Pears & only keep Mrs. Martin. He claimed he could see the movement of SOG officers & enjoyed running them ragged. The Maniac continually demanded their retreat each time they began an approach to the house until he was terrorizing them & they began to believe he had special powers.
Police believed he had some kind of visual aid device, as he appeared to maintain keen awareness of their stupidity despite the complete black of night, of course none was ever found. He was just accurately guessing that the SOG team was trying to approach & somehow they were so dumb they thought that The Maniac could see them. Later in the night, the cordless phone provided to The Maniac began to run low on batteries. Police tried unsuccessfully to get him to return the phone to the charger, but it went dead & no further communications were established.
The hostages were factually already dead & The Maniac was just having fun with the Special Operations Group of The Tasmanian Police. By the next morning, bored by the inability to taunt them by phone, he started a fire. He eventually ran out of the house with his clothes on fire & quickly removed his burning clothes without any assistance from the SOG Team. The Maniac of Port Arthur was finally arrested at that point & taken to the hospital for treatment of his self inflicted minor burns. I would not have bothered.
He had fun at his trial as well, laughing hysterically as the judge read out the charges against him. I imagine there was no death penalty at the time as he only got a lot of life sentences in prison, which is better than the treatment of those he tortured, kidnapped, set on fire, held hostage & killed. The Maniac of Port Arthur, still alive at taxpayer expense today remains Australia's worst killing spree murderer. The incident is considered one of the worst cases worldwide of a mass killing spree in modern times. Factually inspired by the massacre of the school children of Dunblane, Scotland.
In the aftermath of the events, the good people of Australia began to demand that politicians actually make it impossible for this to happen ever again. Australians reacted to the event with widespread shock as well as horror & the political effects were both significant & long-lasting. The Federal Government led state governments, some of which (notably Tasmania itself & Queensland) were opposed to new gun laws, to severely restrict the availability of firearms. While surveys showed up to 85% of Australians "supported gun control", many people supposedly strongly opposed the new laws.
Guess who did not want new gun laws in place? After discovering that the Christian Coalition & The US National Rifle Association (Yup: the NRA) were supporting the gun lobby, the Government & media cited their support: along with the moral outrage of the community to discredit the gun lobby as extremists. Actually, the gun dealers are mass murder opportunists for profits, this isn't really a political stance at all. Mass killings means more gun sales.

Despite all the frantic often erroneous "news" reporting, no one has uncovered any direct connection between his mother & the school. It appears he may have been a student there once himself, long before the current principal, now dead, or the current school psychologist: now dead was associated with Sandyhook Elementary of Newtown,Connecticut. He destroyed his computer hard drives in order to make uncovering his motive in selecting the school more difficult.

Sandyhook Elementary School had been aware that the Monster of Newtown was troubled while a student, as he progressed there were attempts to achieve meaningful intervention by school authorities. ReplyDeleteThank you for reading as well as writing. The shock that anyone feels looking at these beautiful lost children must be channelled into something positive. Never again should become our motto.
No one needs a Bushmaster semiautomatic assault rifle: it is a killing machine. Both the DC Sniper & the Monster of Newton used the same weapon for a reason, ease of use combined with powerful penetration. Ban them, put Bushmaster out of the killing of innocent people business.
The other lesson here is that our country needs to put more $$ into funding programs to house & treat the dangerously mentally ill population. The monster of Newton should not have been out on the streets. Each of these children had bright shining future ahead of them. The loss of them is a hole in all our hearts, we join their families in their sorrow & grief. Our Nation mourns.
RIP Lost Angels. We miss you & will never forget you.

It's as sick as any crimescene and desensitizes the youth at an age when thier learning process is at it's peak!! And the mother must have been quite disturbed herself!! There is no single answer .

There is a lot of new info coming out about this case, the killer, his medical issues, etc. I plan to update in the future. There is no 1 cause to explain this kind of incident. Grand Theft Auto is disgusting, yet a lot of kids play & never kill anyone. Adam Lanza wasn't into that game. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" was his choice. You pick scenarios to graphically shoot as many very realistic people you choose. It is a much sicker game. As Always ; M
